Brave Beauty and the Bible

I remember getting my first Bible; I remember being so proud of it, it was mine. It was black with a paper cover and the King James Version. Pretty rough for a preteen girl to read but I didn’t care, it wasn’t the big family Bible that sat on our coffee table that you weren’t allowed to touch, and it wasn’t the little Gideon’s New Testament that a man gave me at school.  It wasn’t pretty, it was hard to read, but it was mine. We’ve come a long way since those days, so I was excited when I received the FaithGirlz Backpack Bible and Lynn Cowell’s Brave Beauty in the mail. These two are a must for girls young and old.

Let’ start with the Bible, come on now, it’s pink and has a heart on it.  That will make any girls heart happy.  But let’s talk about some of the things that make it great.  First of all, it is God’s word, so that is awesome all by itself, but it is also NIV; this makes it much easier to read. It also had twelve brightly colored pages that talk about different things from friendship to explaining how to have a relationship with Jesus.  It is too cute for words and the perfect size to carry in your purse, backpack, or your favorite tote bag.

At a time when girls are struggling to discover who they are, Brave Beauty is the book that will help them with the questions they are sometimes afraid to ask. “Simple and empowering, Brave Beauty is your companion guide to becoming the courageous girl God created you to be.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.  Brave Beauty is a devotional broken down into 100 “mini-chapters.”  They are perfect.  Most are only one page long, and each includes a “Being Brave” call to action and “Courageous Call” prayer to God.

As I said, we’ve come a long way.  What an opportunity to give our daughters a book that will help them become who God has created them to be and have a book that is not only pretty but designed just for them. FaithGirlz hit the mark with these two, and Lynn Cowell did a great job hearing the heart of our girls and addressing their needs.
